Project Based Learning:
In September, students in Mrs. Wilson’s Algebra II class mastered graphing skills by designing water parks. Students demonstrated understanding of several Algebraic concepts, including coordinates, slope, midpoint distance formulas, and linear equations to place, map, and developing blueprints for various aspects of an imaginary water park. After designing their parks, students then practiced their language skills by completing a written reflection on their work. According to the Buck Institute for Education, PROJECT-BASED LEARNING is "a teaching method in which students gain knowledge and skills by working for an extended period of time to investigate and respond to an engaging and complex question, problem, or challenge." Students work independently or in groups to assess a broad question, create more driving questions, and then work through challenges on their (with guidance from teachers and peers) to create a product that demonstrates learning. This sort of project provides students with voice and choice in the classroom, strengthens problem-solving and critical thinking skills, and couples curriculum with real-world learning. In addition, PBL provides educators with ample opportunities to encourage creativity in the classroom, to engage students at higher levels, and to incorporate technology in lesson planning. Focus On Best Practices:
"Rita Pierson, a teacher for 40 years, once heard a colleague say, 'They don't pay me to like the kids.' Her response: 'Kids don't learn from people they don’t like.'
A rousing call to educators to believe in their students and actually connect with them on a real, human, personal level."

Spotlight on Classroom Tools:
“Creating a whole new digital environment in the class can be complicating some times. A lot of teachers never find the right tools to help them take the maximum advantage of their digitalized class. The tool EDPuzzle can help the teachers figure out the right solutions to the puzzling video world and create the best educational resource for their classes.” www.edpuzzle.com
