Genius Hour Project:
The Genius Hour Project is an extended project-based learning tool that assists students in applying their passions to their academic learning. The Genius Hour Project pushes students to develop driving questions centered on topics that interest them. They research to answer their questions and develop more questions to research. Finally, they provide their findings in a presentation-based project or major writing piece. Genius Hour project is also known as "20% Time" because students should spend about 20% of their work time on this project. This time might occur one hour a day if students stay in the same class all day or it could be once a week if students rotate through class periods. The duration depends upon resources and classroom environments. Google is one of the first corporations to utilize 20% time, allowing their employees to focus on passion projects for 20% of their work week--and out of this project, Google produced several apps and tools, including Gmail and Google Drive.
